The stub for the crazy thing that is his mother

Personality: As a child Xanxus seems to lack the explosive rage he has when he's older, instead content to remain mostly passive an unfazed- though it's to an extreme. He makes little-to-no facial reaction to his mother's insane rambling, nor does he the first time he meets his "father". This is a trait he does retain as he ages, as he's shown generally unfazed by most events in the ring battles or outright ignoring the utter chaos from the other members of the Varia while he eats. though in the future it is also balances with a very testy temper. It's almost a coin flip sometimes to see if something will set him off. While he does have the potential for explosive rage as a child, it is nowhere near as prominent and would take some effort to bring out.

Coming from such a poor upbringing, Xanxus didn't learn much in the ways of empathy. His problems came first because if he worried about anyone else's he probably wouldn't survive. He prioritizes himself over others, and won't readily go to the aide of strangers unless there's good reason- or if he's told to by an adult. His mother's constant raving over him and distinct lack of a father figure has made him something of a mother's boy, so at the very least he is obedient to those older than him.

Xanxus has basically had it ingrained in him by his mother that he is special, and unique, and important because of her delusions of him being the son of the Ninth and thus destined to inherit the Vongola. While this hasn't taken root to the extreme it does when he's older, he does have a lot of pride, and a sense of entitlement about such things despite being from a poor background. His mother and her constant deluded ranting is the main factor that contributes to his big mental break later on. When the ego and entitlement that he had built himself up upon since he was a small child is revealed as a lie, Xanxus goes into a fit of rage- going as far as attacking the Ninth Vongola. Before this, it is also shown that Xanxus gets progressively more aggressive as he ages, killing off his 'brothers' so that there was no competition to the spot of Vongola boss. Again, his younger self has not reached this extreme yet, but he is not stranger to violence and fighting- it's just not fueled by rage as much as it is for survival.

Xanxus is shown to be rather intelligent, which almost seems surprising when one sees how childish or brash he can be when he's older with his tantrums. While he lacks the training and experience as his older self, he can probably think his way out of a bad situation.

While it hasn't formed quite yet, Xanxus grows to hold the Ninth Vongola boss dear to him, which given his difficult time with expressing feeling and making close connections, says a lot. While his methods have not always been anywhere near the moral high road, he always gave it his all for the Vongola. It was just hard for him to understand such things like killing off 'siblings' is probably not the best way to go about helping the Vongola, as he has severe issues with socializing (again, blame his crazy ranting loony of a mother). This is shown when Xanxus finds out that he is not, in fact, the legitimate child of the Ninth. He is completely unable to handle what he feels is the lie and betrayal of the Ninth, as he doesn't understand the man's reasoning behind it. What the Ninth meant to be as compassion, Xanxus saw as a cruel joke. The years of ingrained delusions from his mother, fed by years of mafioso grooming by the Ninth made him incapable of taking the blow to his pride. He went on a rampage, attacking the Ninth and eventually got frozen away by the Zero Point technique, only to unthaw later to try again. Xanxus hasn't exactly been schooled in the ways of the mafioso yet, his reactions to betrayals of close friends or the discovery of his false heritage will garner a similar reaction. Violence and a direct attack on what he perceives as his 'enemy', as well as further detaching himself from forming close bonds with people.

All in all, Xanxus is a very poorly socialized boy who remains emotionally stunted through a veil of aloofness and apathy. He shares his mother's delusions as that is honestly all he knows, and he uses it to keep himself going in the tough life of poverty he leads. Shattering that image will result in an irreversible shift in his mentality towards a more explosively violent direction.

Fears: Xanxus is very much a mama's boy, and mama said his flames make him special. If his flames are taken away, then he loses his chance to be special and get out of the struggling lifestyle he lead before with his mother. He also takes questioning of his heritage very poorly, as it is the only thing giving him hope of being something other than a street kid.

Weaknesses: Physically? He's just a kid about 10-11 years old. While Shounen physics probably puts him on the upper echelons of of 10-11 years olds... he's still just a kid.

Also he's got a distinct lack of empathy, if he has to go out of his way to do it then he will likely not do it. Even if it's simple and could save someone a lot of pain.

He's also a bit of a ticking timebomb. He does have the potential for an explosive temper, and when he does his sky flames will warp into the devastating flames of wrath, which he will probably have little control over.

He is very possessive about food, it's seen to a chaotic extreme when he's older, as he will willingly attack anyone who dare interrupts a meal (Because Steak>teammate). This probably started from being unable to be sure when his next meal would be growing up, and thus he will most likely still be very aggressive when it comes to food. He will take food over cooperation or acknowledging a dire situation, which could result in others or even himself getting hurt.

Xanxus, like most flame users and mafia bosses, has a habit of 'adopting' strays to add to their families. Xanxus has a habit of weeding out the most mentally unstable (though admittedly useful) to claim as his, and this will no-doubt get him into trouble when he's younger and not as adept at using his 'power' to control the chaos.

Mundane Strengths/Abilities:

His perpetually calm demeanor is a strength as much as a weakness. He will not lose his cool in a tense situation and will be able to think through a situation without panicking... even if he will be most likely solely thinking of himself.

Unlike his older self, he hasn't quite fallen into the 'wolf pack' mentality, where he allows internal squabbles among the family in a 'survival of the fittest' manor. He will still remain emotionally distant from friends, but he will at least try to settle internal altercations. This also means he will be protective of an outside force goes after one of his own.

Xanxus is surprisingly intelligent, while his intelligence is sometimes hindered by brashness in his fits of rage when he's older, he is entirely capable of thinking up and plotting very intricate schemes. It isn't a stretch to say his younger self doesn't have experience plotting his way out of bad situations or to get money or food.

He is also very good at surviving and adapting. Whether it's finding food, keeping warm, finding money or shelter, or avoiding getting hurt or in trouble- he knows how to take care of himself.

Sensitivity/Magical Ability:

Sky flames- A type of generic Shounen energy, sky flames have a 'harmony' attribute, which means the user can sync up well with their surroundings and merge with the other flames easily. It seems to have the capabilities of burning like a regular flame. With the properties of this flame Xanxus could potentially unlock any box weapon (should he get his grubby little mitts on Tsuna's or Giotto's rings... and figures out how to channel the energy), it's unlikely that he'll be able to manage this on his own but it is a possibility.

Flame of Wrath- While he hasn't unlocked this ability yet, it is likely that if he becomes enraged his sky flames with turn into the devastating hybrid 'flames of wrath'. Basically it is a mix of Sky and storm flames, merging the storm flames 'erosion/destruction' properties to his sky flame. With this flame he could go from taking down a group of people to completely demolishing a large room and leaving it as nothing but burnt charcoal debris.

Also, given his massive stores of power later on, it is probably safe to assume that the more often he used these abilities, the more adept he will be at them- and thus more power he'll have to fight longer or harder.

Sample RP post:
Xanxus pulled the scarf tighter around his neck. It was still warm from the man who was his father had worn it just moments prior. He looked up to take the man's hand and head to his new home... only to discover that his father wasn't there. No one was. Not his mother, or his father, not the men with his father- even the street was gone. Instead he was in a house, a very nice, large house... if a bit dusty.

"Mamma?" He looked around and took a few steps forward to look up and down the halls, "Padre? ...Hello?"

No answer. That was weird, but no answer meant no one was there, or anyone there didn't want to talk. So he started to walk down the hall, peering into rooms but not venturing into them. If the owner of the house found him it wouldn't be hard to lie his way out if he was mad. This place was weird though, and it didn't seem likely that would be the case. He didn't pause in his searching until he discovered the kitchen... he was hungry. He gave a brief glance down the halls again, this time to make sure no one saw him as he snuck into the kitchen. Much to the boy's delight, despite the weird quiet feeling of the house, and its unkept state, the kitchen was well stocked with food. Xanxus made haste to stuff his pockets full of whatever he could, keeping a close eye on the door incase anyone came in. Just as he's about to stuff the last morsel into his pocket, he hears the clock beginning to chime.

He gave a little start, not expecting the noise but otherwise didn't react... until the room started to change....

The first thing that put the boy on edge was the whispering, sure the rats and rot where startling, but nothing he wasn't exactly unused to, even if they came about abruptly. Rotting and rats couldn't do much to hurt you, but if people caught him in the kitchen he was fucked. Then there was the heat, that wasn't right, it was winter, it wasn't supposed to be hot!

Then just as abrupt as it all started, it stopped and the room went back to normal. Xanxus simply remained frozen in place, looking around the room. After a few deep breaths to calm his racing heart, he moved, taking a tentative step back. Nothing happened. He looked down at the morsel of food in his hand, no rot. Good. With the amount of food in his pockets he could probably eat most of the week. Stuffing his hands back into his pockets he started to leave the room, making sure to be very cautious as he did so, in case the reaction had something to do with the food he stole. Lucky for him, that didn't seem to be the case as the hall and kitchen remained the same after he left it. There was an internal sigh of relief as he started down the halls again, this time at a slightly brisker pace.
